Women scientists for the growth of blueconomy

NEWS

In the context of women and science applied to the blueconomy, Biochica and ISDI interviewed two women scientists: Prof. Teresa Cecchi from the ITT Montani Institute of Fermo (ITALY) and Prof. Clara Santato from Montreal University (CANADA). Their research is focused on the potential applications of marine residues for novel materials and the monitoring of microplastics in marine ecosystems. New promising research frontiers in the blue economy are expected to be reached in the coming years, and women seem to play a key role in this sector. The meeting was an opportunity for a joint discussion concerning the potentialities of biotechnologies and green chemistry research, enhancing the skills and STEM competencies of new women researchers, and women’s empowerment towards innovative jobs for sustainable blueconomy growth.
